Cyber insurance
Cyber Insurance Requirements and Readiness for Small Businesses
Insurers now ask detailed questions before they write or renew a cyber policy. We help you understand cyber insurance requirements, put the controls in place, and answer the application accurately.
Wrong answers on an application can cause problems at claim time. Accurate answers start with knowing what is really in place.

The application
Why cyber insurance requirements keep growing
Ransomware and email fraud claims have pushed insurers to require basic security controls. Applications that once had a few yes-or-no questions now ask about MFA on every remote access path, backup separation, endpoint protection, and staff training.
Missing controls can mean higher premiums, lower limits, exclusions, or no coverage at all. Saying yes to a control that is not fully in place can create a coverage dispute after an incident.
We help you
- Read the application and list what it asks
- Compare each question to what is really in place
- Close gaps before the renewal date
- Document controls with dates and evidence
- Prepare answers your broker can review

Meeting cyber insurance requirements without guesswork
Insurers word their questions differently, but most map to the same core controls. Once those are in place and documented, renewals become much easier. We keep a simple record of each control, when it was set up, and how it is checked, so next year’s application takes an hour instead of a week.
Backups are the big one
Many applications ask whether backups are separated from the main network, encrypted, and tested. Ransomware often tries to destroy backups first. We set up backups that attackers cannot easily reach, and we test restores so you can answer honestly.
Official resources
The controls insurers ask for line up closely with government guidance. CISA’s StopRansomware site lists the same protections: MFA, patching, backups, and an incident plan. Following that guidance helps both your security and your insurability.
Working with your broker
Your broker knows the policies. We know the technology. We are glad to join a call to explain how a control works so the answer on the application is accurate. Law firms can see our page on cyber insurance readiness for law firms.
After a claim
If something happens, the insurer’s response team will ask for logs, timelines, and evidence. Good logging and documentation, set up ahead of time, make that process faster and smoother.
Remote access and vendors
Insurers increasingly ask how outside vendors connect to your systems. Software vendors, copier companies, and old remote support tools can leave open paths into the network. We list every remote access tool in use, remove the ones that are not needed, and put MFA on the rest. Then the answer to the vendor question on the application is clear, true, and easy to explain if an underwriter follows up.
