IT for law firms
Law firm data backup and ransomware recovery
A firm that loses case files loses billable time and client trust. Law firm data backup means encrypted backups in place and restores we test.
- Serving Los Angeles
- Business IT since 1998
- Remote first, on-site when needed
What we handle
- Encrypted backups
- Restore tests
- Workstation and server recovery
- Plans for ransomware and hardware failure
- On-site when remote is not enough
Law firm data backup that restores when it counts
Law firm data backup is easy to buy and easy to get wrong. A backup job that says “success” is not the same as files you can open during a deadline week.

What’s included
Our law firm data backup work covers:
- Encrypted copies of matter files, email, and practice data
- At least one copy kept offline or locked, so ransomware cannot reach it
- Cloud data too: Microsoft 365 mail, OneDrive, and SharePoint
- Restore tests on a schedule, with notes on what came back
- A written order of what gets restored first
- Workstation and server recovery after a failure
How we start
- List what the firm cannot lose: matters, email, accounting, scans
- Check where each one is stored and how it is backed up today
- Close the gaps and add an offline copy
- Run a restore test and write down the result
When ransomware hits a firm
Recovery is only half the job. ABA Formal Opinion 483 says lawyers should have a plan for a breach, act to stop it, and tell clients when their information is affected. California’s Formal Opinion 2020-203 points the same way. Good law firm data backup gives that plan a working base. This is an IT view, not legal advice.
Retention is not the same as backup
Backups exist to recover. Retention rules decide how long files are kept. Your attorneys set the retention policy. We make the systems follow it.
How it works
- We look at the officeNetwork, backups, Microsoft 365, and how the office runs.
- We put the structure inSecurity, encryption, infrastructure, and a restore path.
- You call a technicianRemote first. On-site when that is what it takes.
FAQ
Law firm data backup only counts if it restores.
How do you know a backup works?
We test restores, not just backup jobs.
Are the backups encrypted?
Yes. We put encrypted backups in place for law firms.
What if ransomware hits?
We follow the plan for ransomware and hardware failure and restore from backup. On-site when remote is not enough.
How often should law firm data backup be tested?
On a schedule, and after any big change. A test is the only proof the backup works.
Does Microsoft 365 back up our email on its own?
Not the way most firms expect. Deleted items and retention settings are not a full backup, so we add one.
Should we pay a ransom?
That is a decision for the firm, counsel, and your insurer. Clean, tested backups are what keep it from being the only option.
